Dudensing Law founder Ed Dudensing presented a continuing legal education webinar for the California Advocates for Nursing Home Reform (CANHR), teaching plaintiff-side elder abuse attorneys how to read and use nursing home financial records as litigation evidence.
The webinar, “Financials 101 for Elder Abuse Lawyers,” covered ten categories of financial documents that commonly surface in elder abuse and neglect cases, including budgets, income statements, EBITDA metrics, variance reports, related party transactions, general ledgers, balance sheets, concentration accounts, credit lines, and enterprise valuation.
A central theme of the presentation was that financial records are among the most powerful tools for elder abuse attorneys, and that understanding how to read them is a crucial, and learnable, skill.
Ed also walked attendees through how nursing home operators use related party transactions and concentration accounts to shift profits to affiliated entities, and how attorneys can trace those flows through general ledgers and cross-collateralized credit lines to build alter-ego and enterprise liability arguments.
Through presentations like this, Ed shares the strategies and techniques he has developed over decades of practice to help fellow plaintiff attorneys strengthen their advocacy on behalf of vulnerable clients.
