In a piece for the Lodi News-Sentinel, Ed Dudensing discussed a lawsuit filed on behalf of Eric Moore against Arbor Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Lodi, CA. The lawsuit contends that the staff’s reckless neglect of Linda Moore at Arbor Rehab led to Ms. Moore acquiring severe pressure sores, which ultimately killed her on December 24, 2023.
Linda Moore was admitted to Arbor Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in October 2023 after experiencing breathing problems and a pulmonary embolism. Despite being at high risk for pressure sores due to her limited mobility, Arbor staff failed to implement critical care interventions, including regular repositioning, proper mattress use, and adequate nourishment. As a result of these failures, Ms. Moore acquired multiple pressure sores that went untreated and deteriorated into fatal Stage IV wounds.
In a poignant interview with the Lodi News-Sentinel, Linda Moore’s son, Eric Moore, described his heartbreak at learning just two days before his mother’s death that his mom had stage IV pressure sores that were going to kill her. He described his mother as a good citizen with a kind heart and a relentless advocate for those around her. Now, as Eric says, it is his time to advocate for her. Eric explained that he was speaking to the media because he wanted to ensure that the public was aware of what happened at Arbor Rehab so that it would not happen to the loved ones of others in the community.
When asked by the reporter what Eric is hoping to get out of the lawsuit, he said, “I would not know what the dollar amount is. I just want to know what happened to my mom, and I don’t want it to happen to anyone else.”
The Lodi News-Sentinel notes that the lawsuit accuses Arbor Rehab, owned by Covenant Care of California, LLC, of violating the Elder Abuse Act, acting with fraud, malice, and recklessness, and thus disregarding Ms. Moore’s health and welfare.
Dudensing Law remains committed to holding elder care facilities that recklessly neglect their residents accountable.
